Family Counselling

Family counselling is focused on the family patterns of relating. We tend to repeat patterns of relating over and over as determined bu each family members personality, styles of relating and communicating and emotional reactions. These patterns can become problematic and can cause family conflict.

Family counselling is about not blaming one individual in the pattern but simply looking at the pattern and finding out how the pattern can be changed to a more harmonious way of doing life together. If the family slows down for a while and becomes aware of their pattern it is possible to change without targeting a particular family member or using them as a scapegoat.

It is best if the whole family attend counselling together from the beginning to develop a trusting relationship with the counsellor and so no sides are taken with any member. It is also possible to see the parents first and then begin the family process but the former way is best practice.
